All aspects of care and education for babies and toddlers has been refined at Pinocchio's in order to get the best possible outcomes for our very youngest children. We have systems in place which guide them through this process whilst keeping you, the parent or guardian, completely informed on a daily basis.
As recommended by the government framework, all children who are between birth and three years old must be supported according to a set framework. At Pinocchio's we fulfil our obligation through using the Pre-birth to three guidelines incorporating best practice.
The Pre-birth to three framework refers to planned learning experiences based on different aspects of the children's development and learning. This helps staff to plan activities and experiences that promote children's learning and development.
There are four key principles for best starts and positive outcomes:
• Rights of the child
Children's rights are defined in many ways, including a wide spectrum of civil, cultural, economic, social and political rights.
• Responsive care
Responsive care means knowing and accepting children and respecting that they are unique individuals.
• Relationships
Babies are genetically predisposed to form relationships; this is their strongest evolutionary survival mechanism.
• Respect
Children's views, values and attitudes are shaped largely by family and more indirectly by communities.
All staff working with babies and young children should be aware what these key principles are.
A key worker is an employee who is the parent's first contact within the nursery. The key worker's role is to monitor the child's all round development whilst at nursery, completing the child's profile and helping to deal with any issues that may arise at home or in the nursery. Getting to know a child's key worker is important so that parents and key workers can work together to ensure an enjoyable and valuable time is had at nursery by all.
Daily slips are used for any child who uses nappies or is potty training. The daily slip is issued to the parent at the end of the nursery session with a summary of the child's day. The daily slip is an important reference to the parents as to the child's routine for that day i.e. what their child has had to eat, sleep times, nappy changes and daily activities. Further to this any medication that has been administered is also recorded here. Daily slips are individual to each child and may only be completed by employees of Pinocchio's.
Children's profiles aim to show your child's development in the nursery. Key workers are responsible for writing weekly observations which are used as evidence in the one to one parent's evenings in May, although parents are able to see the profile at any point. It is a useful record of your child's activities and achievements throughout the year and helps staff to plan and implement care plans that match the individual needs of your child, something which is done in close coordination with the room Supervisor and you as the parent.
