Our Charity Work

Our ongoing fundraising for Edinburgh children’s hospital charity has raised a rolling amount of over £90,000 from 2018 and they are delighted with our long term commitment. We have continued our annual support, with our most recent initiatives were our Summer Open/ fun days and Christmas Fayres, where staff held tombola's / raffles/ Christmas gift bags (which included hand made treasures from the children), beat the goalie, soak the teacher, guess the amount of sweeties in the jar, tattoos, bouncy castle, face painting and guess the Pinocchio's Birthday.  Katrina and Sarah also attended the Girly get together, where they participated in an auction to raise more money.

Our aim is to raise £100,000 with Pinocchio’s matching £1 for every £1 raised, with the support from our families and wonderful teams in each of the nurseries. Read more

I’d like to say a big thank you for all that the does ‘Edinburgh children’s hospital charity’, it truly makes a difference in our local community.

Oor Wullie’s BIG Bucket Trail 2019

Pinocchio's sculpture is called “Oor Woody”

Pinocchio's  supported Oor Wullie’s BIG Bucket Trail and Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity. We were extremely proud to play our part and encourage  in the trail.

Katrina and Sarah then successfully won  Oor Woody in the Auction, raising more money for Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity.

Oor Woody now resides in our Heriot Watt Nursery in the entrance hall, greeting all the families and children.

As well as the Oor Wullie sponsored design we will still be holding our annual summer and Christmas fairs. A unique sponsored Pinocchio’s group Oor Wullie sponsored walk will take place on Sunday the 23rd June (details will be confirmed).  We hope to find our large design and a few more – get your Oor Wullie outfits ready and your boots on for walking! Very exciting, looking forward to seeing you all there.

We couldn’t do it without the help from our families for this great local cause, it is very much appreciated!

Hope you all have fun with your family art designs.

best wishes

Lewissa Koulis Director

Lewissa Sky dived for the charity to raise funds in April’18 and our Lasswade nursery did the Kiltwalk in September 2018.

Since opening our first nursery in Lasswade in 2010 with a passion to ensure that children come first and that our nurseries feel like a second home to them. This is why we believe that the Edinburgh Children's hospital charity is such a good match for us ‘Child first, patient second’ - it’s a natural fit with our family ethos.  We love that the Sick Kids Friends Foundation provide home environments that are available for families to use to get some normality back when they are going through a tough time.

In 2009 we had a child that choked and we realised just how quickly you need to act in an emergency, and how the support of excellent medical care in these situations helps to provide positive outcomes for the children and their families.  We were delighted that the child made a 100% recovery and were back at nursery the following week. Since 2010 we have successfully fund-raised more than £90,000! We have heard so many stories that touched our hearts over the years; another time we had a child who fell ill at nursery and was rushed by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children. He was diagnosed with meningitis and blood poisoning and the prompt and excellent treatment he received was vital. He has fully recovered and returned to nursery one month later.

We have tried many different ways of fund-raising, from producing our own recipe books in 2011, summer and Christmas fairs, raffles with donations from local businesses, and sponsored walks and teddy bear picnics, Sky dive’s, Kit walks. However, the easiest and most successful fund-raising activity by far is our annual ‘Sponsored Easter Treasure Egg’. The children are invited to raise funds through sponsorship for decorating an egg at home in a particular colour associated with their room at nursery. It’s a fantastic way to link home and nursery. We ask the parents to bring the decorated egg back into nursery for us to display, then all of the lovely designs are judged. Prizes are awarded by each playroom for the best design and the most funds raised. We have five nurseries in Edinburgh and Midlothian, with a total of 19 playrooms. The Directors are delighted to donate our annual £5,000 and in resent years the nurseries have managed to match another £5,000 annually total of £10,000.  The Easter egg activity has been highly commended by HMIe and Care Inspectors at inspections. Together we can help raise more funds for the Edinburgh children’s hospital charity.

Pinocchio's Children’s Nurseries are a group of 5 award winning children's nurseries across Edinburgh & Midlothian.

We currently have purpose built day nurseries in Eskbank, Lasswade, Penicuik, Heriot Watt and Gilmerton.
