Forest School play is an educational initiative to enhance children’s experiences using the natural wildlife surroundings.  It helps to build child’s self-esteem, confidence, provides opportunities for the children to explore and gain knowledge of risk and how to assess a situation in order for the children to challenge their skills and abilities.

Our Lead Forest School play teacher teaches the children how to explore the woodlands, play with natural materials and enhance their learning through experiences such as den building, learning how to build safe forest campfires, using natural settings and materials to incorporate in art and crafts, create our own woodland stories and learning the different species of trees and plants.

Within the children’s play and experiences they will be incorporating our curriculum for English, Maths, Health and Wellbeing and Science.

Scotland is leading the way in Forest schools (from a statement provide by Edinburgh council last week) and we at Pinocchio’s are excited to be apart of it!

As part of our Intergenerational Programme, we regularly visit the local care homes in the community.

• Encouraging different generations to form relationships.
• Children aged 3 months to 12 years old visit the residents

As well as regular weekly local walks and trips for all ages, we have the following events annually:

• May parent's consultation 1-1 meetings with your child's keyworker.
• Junior and Preschool summer trip
• November informal parent's evening
• Christmas party, with a special visitor!
• Preschool Christmas outing
• Fun days- Raising money for our main charity- Edinburgh children’s hospital charity.
• Summer Sports day and Preschool Graduation, Nativity show
