Starting Nursery and Settling in

Nursery helps children to enjoy the rewards of friendship. The ability to socialise and work with others are both essential skills for future happiness and success.

Research shows that children who have enjoyed the benefits of a good nursery perform better socially and emotionally at school. Learning to be away from a parent is one of the biggest hurdles a young child experiences. Developing trusting relationships with others is essential to becoming confident and secure individuals. Getting along with others, making friends and feeling a sense of belonging really helps.

Settling In

We offer a free settling in sessions for every child who is starting nursery. You can choose to stagger your starting sessions for example starting part time and progressing to full time, if you wish.

In your settling in session, you will have the opportunity to meet the teams within your child's room, learn some more about their daily routines and experiences on offer and let your child stay within the nursery for their first visit.

Every child is different and we will work with parents and children to ensure that they enjoy their time with us and get used to the nursery environment.

It would be helpful for you to please bring the following for your child starting nursery:

All Children

  • A change of clothing (named) in case of accidents
  • A pair of slippers or soft shoes for indoors
  • Wellies or other outdoor shoes
  • In the colder months: a warm jacket, scarf, gloves and a hat.
  • For the warmer months: a sunhat and sun cream

Babies

  • 2 bottles (which we will name and sterilise after use)

We provide waterproof all in ones for the children at nursery to keep them dry when they are outside in wet conditions.  Perfect for puddle splashing!
