Eskbank Nursery Facilities

Eskbank nursery is exceptionally bright and airy inside with fantastic facilities, with quiet sleep areas and indoor and out spaces. The nursery has ample parking to ease drop-off and pick-up times for parents.

We have four playrooms:

  • A baby/ Toddler room – aged 3 months to 2 years approximately
  • A junior room – aged 2 – 3 years
  • An Early Learner room – aged 3 – 5 years old
  • An Afterschool club – for school aged children up to 12 years old

There are 3 gardens- Under 2 years, over 2 years which has a tennis court that is also used for football, basket ball & Badminton and a large vegetable plot, there are weekly Forest school visit which the children love.

We are extremely lucky to have a large nursery garden.  We have a large planting and crop area, where the children are supported by John and Karen the gardeners.  They visit the nursery and work with the children to help grow lots of different fruit and vegetables. The crops are then used by the nursery chef for our healthy and nutritious meals that our chef Nicky cooks.

The garden is the heart of Pinocchio’s Eskbank and the children love to take part in all the experiences.  The garden hosts a tennis court, tepee, numeracy and literacy areas, mud kitchen, road, construction area, block play, water and sand. The children use a wide selection of loose parts resources which allow them to problem solve, work as a team, become successful learners and take part in risky play.

We use our nursery mini bus to collect children from Woodburn Primary School and St. David’s Primary Schools.  We use a walking bus for children who attend Kings Park Primary School. We offer a holiday club for the school children to attend during the school holidays.

We are close to lots of different places of interest and visit them regularly with the school children and holiday club.

We have close connections with our sister nursery Lasswade and a Afterschool Adventures club, where the children participate in weekly Forest School sessions, visits to local parks, play tennis and football.

Our children and staff visit our local care home – Archview Care Home.  This is hugely beneficial for the children and the residents, new relationships are formed between the young and older people.

The children are always so excited to visit their new friends and take part in lots of different experiences such as painting, gluing, reading books, singing and ball games.  This not only helps to develop the children’s creativity, communication, literacy, fine and gross motor skills but also the residents.

Pinocchio's Children’s Nurseries are a group of 5 award winning children's nurseries across Edinburgh & Midlothian.

We currently have purpose built day nurseries in Eskbank, Lasswade, Penicuik, Heriot Watt and Gilmerton.
